Commercial and Residential
While the deck might have looked amazing when it was installed, the weather can do a number on its appearance. The deck boards may still be in good shape, but if they’re looking worn or they’re scratched and scuffed, it’s time to have them painted or stained. The same goes for the fence. Professionals can handle the deck and fence painting with ease, giving them a new look and protecting them from the weather. The paint, along with regular pressure washing, will help it continue to look great for many years.
When it comes to stains, you have several options. The darker stains tend to hold their color better over time and also protect against wear and tear better, but the lighter ones tend to bring out the natural color of the original wood.
The deck must be power washed prior to staining to get the wood clean and free of any debris so the stain will soak in properly. Even a brand new deck should be power washed to clean it of impurities left there due to the milling process.
There are a few types of stains you can use. Clear is the best one for bringing out the natural color of the original wood, but these tend to need to be replaced quicker than other types of stains.
Semi-transparent stains are a middle ground as they allow the grain to be seen but cover more thoroughly and change the color of the underlying wood.
Finally, solids are more akin to paint, covering the wood completely and changing the original color to whatever you want it to be. These are the toughest and last the longest.
There is no best option with stains. It is really a personal preference.
A professional doing the job right can make your deck look brand new.
